Our newly appointed Assistant Curate, Marc Walford introduces himself.
Hello from your soon to be Assistant Curate. My name is Rev’d Marc Walford and I will be licensed to your benefice in September which couldn’t come fast enough as far as I’m concerned! So I’m going to take this opportunity to introduce myself so you know who I am when we eventually meet and where better to start than at the beginning.
I grew up in Barry, where my family still lives. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. I went to school in Llandough and then to St Cyres in Penarth. After school I went to Barry FE College where I did a BTEC National Diploma for IT practitioners. I then went off to university in Aberystwyth where I did a BSc in Space Science and Robotics. After my degree I stuck around in Aberystwyth while I went through selection for the church and got a job as a care worker for adults with learning disabilities. Once selected I went off to Wycliffe Hall in Oxford to train for ministry and did a BTh in Theology. I was Ordained in 2016 and have been serving for the last 2 years in the grouped parish of Burton & Rosemarket & Llanstadwell in the ministry area of the Llannau Cleddau (and breathe…).
While I was in Aberystwyth I met my wonderful wife Patrycja, who was studying Psychology and we got married in 2013. Patrycja currently works in the Iceland Food Warehouse and in September will be returning to education to train to become a counsellor. Patrycja is a fantastic seamstress, and enjoys crafts. I enjoy pottering around with robotics, fencing and I am trying to get into astro-photography (emphasis on the trying…I haven’t quite figured it out yet). We also have a Border Collie named Spock (yes, as in from star trek <- It was Patrycja’s idea!).
