Update on the Restoration Project
August 2026
The survey led by consultant, Chris Atherton
This survey, which sought views about the status and future of the Church and its role in the community, has now been completed and Chris will be reporting back to the project team shortly.
His report will inform the scope of our restoration and re-imagining project (as per the Master Plan) and contribute to our forthcoming Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid.
Roof Repairs
We have been awarded a grant of £13,110 by the National Church’s Trust and the Wolfson Foundation to repair permanently the East Church south aisle roof. This work will hopefully be undertaken this autumn.
Choir Stalls
A faculty has now been submitted to complete the application for the removal of the choir stalls and the altar rails to improve the space available for both liturgy and performance. Hopefully this work should be completed by the end of October 2026.
Eco Church and The National Emergency Briefing on Climate and Nature
We are applying for Eco Church status. A diverse team has been established comprising members of the congregation and the community, and a survey had been conducted of the churchyard to make it more eco-friendly.
We intend to hold a launch of the scheme in early October together with a showing of the National Climate Emergency film. This project will also contribute significantly to our HLF bid.
Cadw ‘Open Doors’ scheme
We have registered the Church as part of Cadw’s ‘Open Doors’ scheme which runs through September. We are offering to provide tours and refreshments after the services on Wednesday from 11.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. and on Friday from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. We need volunteers to provide and serve the refreshments and to act as tour guides. If you can help, please let David Ellis (dellis@elliscymru.co;uk), Edwin or the office know.
Maintenance Team
In line with requirements for the HLF bid, we are also forming a small maintenance team, which will meet once a month to check and organise routine maintenance works etc. Please contact David Ellis if you wish to join this team.
We are organising an energy audit of the Church and looking to replace the damaged boiler probably, so that we can reduce our bills and have an efficient heating system before the cold weather sets in.
